POD took a total of 3 months to Research, Design & Construct
-
Initial studies were conducted to understand the scope of homelessness. We took a deep dive into understanding the issue of Homelessness in New Jersey, specifically in Newark.
-
Our initial research studies led us to hone in on 5 themes while designing our project. Foldability, Human Interaction, Portability, Flexibility, and Modularity.
-
The materiality significantly impacted the budget for our project with extensive lead times and low stock on lumber. With $10,000, we were not only able to build a dwelling unit, but we built a potential future for P.O.D nationwide.

“I’m inspired by what it stands for, it is trying to solve something for the city of Newark. There are lots of stigmas that surround homelessness and I think this is a really dignified way of solving it. This design is more of a home than a shelter.”
